US doctors cure baby born with HIV

A Mississippi baby girl born with HIV for more than two years appears to have been cured of the deadly virus with standard drug therapy. The unidentified child  was born in a rural hospital in the state of Mississippi was diagnosed with the virus at birth to a mother who did not receive prenatal care or HIV treatment. Hence 30 hours after birth, the baby was started on antiretroviral treatment.

After being on treatment for like 15 months, doctors lost contact with the mother and the baby stopped receiving any medication. Only to reappear at 23 months of age with viral loads undetectable. Despite being off treatment for almost a year.

"This is a proof of concept that HIV can be potentially curable in infants," said Dr. Deborah Persaud, a virologist at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, who presented the findings

Aside this recent story of the baby being cured of the deadly HIV virus, the only other documented story on HIV cure is the case of Timothy Brown and from what I can tell, I feel the HIV cure is just around the corner  but for now, we all must ABSTAIN from ways by which this virus is being contacted.
