Cathy Samford, teacher and former coach fired for out-of-wedlock pregnancy

A Dallas-area volleyball coach and science teacher, Cathy Samford has been fired by the Christian Heritage school were she worked for becoming pregnant without being married.

According to reports,Cathy Samford was fired during the fall semester immediately it was discovered she was pregnant outside wedlock. Despite having led the volleyball program for three years and being named the school's coach of the year once, Samford still couldn't get to hold her job and it seems the matter is headed for a legal challenge.Upon her admitting being pregnant, Heritage Christian Academy terminated her appointment on the ground of her violating  her contract's morals clause which according to the institution states that her present condition goes to show that she can not serve as 'a christian role model.'

Speaking with WFAA, the 29 year old, stated that  "We all have different views and interpretations. It's not necessarily the Christian thing to do to throw somebody aside because of those."

While Samford along side her lawyer, Colin Walsh walk toward filing a discrimination suit against the school, the case seem slightly complicated owing to the fact that the institution in question is a private set up and recent decission by the Supreme Court defends the right of the school to bear more power on the way hire and fire staffs due to the fact that teacher are considered to be ministers of some sort in the class room.

Following last month's ruling, the Supreme Court has ruled 9 -to- 0 in favour of the school, stating that the school reserves the right to have standard of conduct.

While the two parties continues mediation attempts, the school has refused to consider a settlement for the case.
