Eko 2012 set to kick off tomorrow

The Lagos state sports carnival tagged Eko 2012, is set to kick off tomorrow...although some football events have already started today. The opening ceremony for the 18th edition of the Nigerian National Sports Festival tagged Eko 2012 is billed to hold on Tuesday in Lagos.

Unity touch light for the event arrived Lagos on Saturday through the sea, ahead of the official opening of the Games billed for Tuesday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.The festival flame brought by the Zonal Coordinator of the National Sports Commission (NSC) South-West, Zone One, Dr Steve Olarinoye, arrived at the Marina Jetty, CMS, Lagos, at about 10.50 a.m. and was first received by the  chairman, Lagos State House Committee on Sports and Youth Development, Mr Babatunde Lawrence Ayeni.



Olarinoye, while presenting the torch to Governor Fashola at the Governor's House, Marina, stated that Lagos State has brought glamour to the biennial games through the innovation.

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the sports festival said it is set to put up a colourful opening ceremony that will be the talk-of-the-town. LOC Secretary-General, Kweku Tandoh, said that pre-opening ceremony activities will start from 3pm local time (4pm CAT).
